2018 Celebration Honoring Jim Preis
MHAS Board Member Francis Ryu announced that MHAS’ annual Advocates Award has been re-named the “Jim Preis Award for Mental Health Advocacy” as a lasting tribute to Jim's legacy. The award was presented to Jim's family by Richard Van Horn, who is a member of the MHAS Advisory Board and the retired CEO of Mental Health America Los Angeles. Additionally, the offices of U.S. Congressman Ted Lieu and Los Angeles City Councilman Mitchell Englander presented honorary certificates to recognize Jim’s 40 years of dedication to protecting and advancing the legal rights of people with mental disabilities
.A tribute video was shown at the event, featuring interviews with Richard Van Horn, Bruce Saltzer, Lucy Eisenberg, Mary Ann Bannan-Haines, David Bower, Elyn Saks, Ron Schraiber, Francis Ryu, and Ahilan Arulanantham.
