Jim Preis has served as Executive Director of Mental Health Advocacy Services for over thirty-five years. As a leading authority on mental health law, he has litigated major cases on behalf of people with mental disabilities, lectured widely on mental health advocacy issues, and authored books, law review and professional articles on legal issues affecting people with mental disabilities. Jim has taught courses in mental health law in the Department of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences at the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine, Loyola Law School and USC Gould School of Law. Jim received a B.A. in philosophy from Stanford University and a J.D. from USC Gould School of Law.
