Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP
The law firm of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom has provided continuous leadership on the MHAS Board of Directors since 1991. Skadden has been a source of ongoing pro bono legal assistance to our clients. The Skadden Fellowship Foundation has awarded MHAS five two year fellowships allowing young attorneys to improve conditions and mental health treatment in juvenile hall, have a major impact on the funding of mental health services for children in California, improve mental health services for individuals exiting the criminal justice system, attack the “school to prison pipeline,” and create a behavioral health legal partnership for homeless veterans.
Bruce Saltzer has been a friend and collaborator with MHAS for his entire career. In his early years as an attorney at the Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles representing children in special education cases and then as Executive Director of Area Board 10 on Developmental Disabilities, Bruce was a partner with MHAS in fighting for the rights of people with disabilities. Since 1991, first as Executive Director of the Association of Community Mental Health Agencies, and then following a merger, in his current position as Executive Director of the Association of Community Human Service Agencies (ACHSA), Bruce has been a leader in the fight for comprehensive mental health services in Los Angeles County and statewide.
